"I think there's something wrong with my car. The engine light is on." She went on to say more things but I just did a face palm and missed the rest of it...

You should've told her that the engine light is just there to show her that the engine is still in the car.

I don't get it. Seems a perfect example of why we have CELs, even though they annoy the small minority who might diagnose a problem themselves. Do you think she'd have noticed anything wrong otherwise?

Agreed. We're not all car enthusiasts. Most of us aren't . What's there to facepalm for?

I don't know, maybe there's more to the story, but we weren't told enough to get it?

What are we talking about here, a GM car?

Maybe, but I think it's probably an accurate observation. "Oh, look, the warning light is on. I guess I ought to feel warned."

This is what I bought. Everyone will think you're the GOD of automobile when you'll scan there codes and tell them what it is. Plus you can pair it with TORQUE PRO (android app) and have real time information from your car! Can't beat that!
If you need a proof, this is the codes my car is throwing right now :

Isn't ... isn't that the purpose of this light?

Sorry... the implication was that the CEL had been on for quite some time.

Sorry. I forgot to mention the implication is that the light has been on for a while.

Ah! That was unclear. Okay. Yeah, way to ignore a warning then.

Overheard at work: "I got the horseshoe light" this morning... GASP, I now need to take it in today. FML"

Sorry, I was being sarcastic about GM cars and engines falling out.

Kills me that my current car and my dream car (same manufacturer, same generation) are both the last gen of OBD1. I miss out on all of the cool toys.

Yeah, I quite understand that. My 1984 chevette doesn't have OBD so you have to guess with the symptoms! Still, OBD1 is easier to trick and to manipulate with a lot of modifications so there are plus side for it.

Yeah, if you can find a connector for it. Bought a (cheapo eBay) Nissan Datascan tool and a (cheapo eBay) RS232-USB converter, aaaaand...
My car apparently didn't get the Datascan port. WTH Nissan??!? So, like a crazy person, I tore apart the Datascan tool, read a bunch of wiring diagrams, and hardwired the Datascan-Car port to my ECU, hooked up the RS232-USB on the other end, and hooked the USB into a Purpose-formatted XP box.
You'll be surprised to find out that that didn't work at all. My car still idles like shit, and I still don't know why :(

What have you done so far for your idling problem ?
It can be a lot of things, that's the problem.
Don't take it offensive but you might check this out, it will give you a wider view of what to look for.

One of my coworkers said that she felt like she's learned a lot about random car things just from hearing me whine about mine.
Success! Hahaha.

Considering how long I've had the idle problem now (nearing a year), and how many ways i've tried to fix it to no avail (many), I take no offense to any advice at this point.
Things I've tried:
Checked for vacuum leaks (found none. Need to buy a test kit for that.)
Replaced Spark plugs
Power balance tested (Pretty surprised that a 23 year old engine pushes pretty good compression still)
New radiator (old one was pushing some sludge. New one is pretty clean)
New Mass Airflow sensor (These are hard to test, and, at the time, I was absolutely convinced that this was the problem. Alas, no change)
Disassembled and cleaned the Aux Air Control Valve.
And that's it so far. My idle issue results in the car, when warmed up, hunting for idle and eventually dieing (without input from the accelerator). My current two targets are the Coolant Temperature Sensor (maybe it's bugging out and my A/F Maps are wrong?) or the Throttle Position Sensor (maybe the idle signal isn't working, and I'm getting bad A/F Maps).
Also, I'm using a Fuel pump that's too weak for the car. While I doubt that this is causing idling issues, who knows?
Still need to test for boost leaks too. I've seen some videos online on how to build a tester thingy that hooks up to an air compressor, but haven't gotten around to making it yet.
On point of the post: My engine isn't throwing any error codes, just to make matters worse.
